This is not correct you can smoke airside in south terminal in the My Lounge it has an outdoor smoking area.

Smoking is not allowed beyond security at either London Gatwick Airport terminals (this is because of UK law), so smokers need to wait until they arrive at their destination to find smoking facilities.

Before security, landside you can smoke at both North and South terminals but outside the terminal buildings in designated smoking areas. These are clearly signposted.

The North terminals outdoor smoking area is a lot easier to find and closer than the South terminals. This means that you can dash to your flight quicker.

You'll also find this smoking area is often pretty busy.
