Before arriving at Terminal 4, be prepared for potential wait times at the security checkpoint, as travelers have reported long lines during peak hours. While new bag scanners allow you to keep laptops and other electronics in your bags, there is still a chance that some items may be manually searched, which can extend your processing time. Be sure to follow the signage regarding security procedures, as clarity can sometimes be lacking, especially around which items need to be removed from your luggage. Aiming for early arrival is advisable to ensure a smooth experience during the security process.

Crowdsourced tips for Security at London Heathrow Airport - Terminal 4
There was a long line at security. The signs were not clear about what electronics needed to be taken out of our bags. Almost every bag had to get searched manually which took ages.
New bag scanners, you don’t have to take out your laptop or electronic.
It was really quiet when I visited too.
