Terminal 1 at Manchester Airport provides a fundamental arrival transit experience, but it’s advisable to plan your onward journey in advance due to limited local transportation options. A taxi to the city center can be costly, typically ranging from £40 to £50 for a 25-minute ride. If you're considering public transport, expect to use a combination of bus and train services, which can be more time-consuming. Keep an eye out for signage directing you to the correct transport links as you navigate through the terminal.

Crowdsourced tips for Arrival Transit at Manchester Airport - Terminal 1
My problem with Manchester Airport is less to do with the airport and more to do with transport in the North West. £40 to £50 in a taxi for a 25 minute journey. The other option is a bus then train to Manchester and another train out of Manchester to the airport.
